The Head Start Approach
Head Start programs promote children’s growth from birth to age 5 by providing services that foster early learning, development, health, and family well-being. Staff work closely with parents, recognizing their involvement as essential to strong outcomes for children throughout the program.
Families who qualify can access Head Start services at no cost for children from birth to age 5. Head Start preschool services support families with children ages 3 to 5, while Early Head Start serves families with children from birth to age 3, including many expectant families. Many programs offer both Head Start preschool and Early Head Start services, with options available in center-based, home-based, or family child care settings. Head Start programs remain committed to delivering high-quality, safe, and healthy services that prepare children for school and future success.
October Is Head Start Awareness Month!
Head Start Awareness Month gives us the opportunity to highlight the impact of Head Start programs, who they benefit, and how they support our communities. Our five top priorities are to:
- Provide parenting support & strategies
- Support parental health and links to community services during pregnancy
- Connect families to community and federal assistance
- Assist families in identifying and reaching their goals and dreams
- Provide a career pathway in early care and education
